Sensei Phillip Balzano

Phillip graduated St. Mary's High School in 2006 as Salutatorian. He is recipient of the 2006 Robert C. Byrd Scholarship (one of 120 in the state of Maryland), he received the Cyril Stockhausen Award for Excellence in Science, he is a Parvis Scholar (maintained at least a 4.0 throughout high school), he is a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students, An Archdiocese of Baltimore Distinctive Scholar, recipient of the University of Rochester Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences, (also received a scholarship to the University of Rochester), received the U. S. Marine Corps Awards for Scholastic Excellence and the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence, the President's Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence, received the State of Maryland Merit Scholastic Award, and the Youth Award from the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary.

 Phillip also lettered in Varsity Tennis as #2 singles player for 4 years. He was a regular volunteer at the Caring Collection, a non-profit organization which makes stained glass angels and sun catchers (all by hand) and donates all proceeds to cancer care at Anne Arundel Medical Center and cancer research at Johns Hopkins. $640,000.00 has been donated to date. (check out the website www.caringcollection.org ) He also volunteers regularly at the U. S. Naval Academy Museum, building and refurbishing models for display in the Museum.

 He will be attending Villanova University as a Biochemistry Major.
